Monday 30 April:
Arnhem - Düsseldorf
You are most welcome on board from 16:00. During dinner we will cast off and leave Arnhem behind us. You can get to know your fellow passengers in the lounge during the evening while we sail gently on towards Düsseldorf.
Tuesday 1 May:
We arrive in Düsseldorf early in the morning. This city offers a whole range of possibilities. The Altstadt (Old Town) shows you the old part of Düsseldorf while the Medienhafen (Media Harbour) will introduce you to modern architecture. You can walk into the lively centre from the Rhine promenade.
Wednesday 2 May:
Düsseldorf - Cologne - Andernach
The silhouettes of the high towers on the Cologne Dom Cathedral soon come into sight. We will moor in Cologne around coffee time to visit this fascinating city. During lunch we will leave Cologne and sail towards Andernach. This old town was once one of 50 Roman fortresses on the Rhine.
Thursday 3 May:
Andernach - Rüdesheim - Frankfurt
Today we sail along the ‘Romantic Rhine’ with its beautiful views. The 132 metre high ‘Lorelei’ is just one of the many highlights of this lovely day. In Rüdesheim you can visit the Musikkabinett or you can take the cable car up to the Niederwald Memorial high above the Rhine. You should not miss the tour(*) through the local vineyards during your visit to Rüdesheim. At the end of the afternoon we continue our journey and leave the Rhine for the Main. It won’t be long before the imposing Frankfurt skyline comes into view.
Friday 4 May:
Frankfurt - Miltenberg
The first stretch of the river was somewhat dominated by industry, but now the Main is surrounded by the Odenwald Forest and the Spessartgebergte mountain range. The townscape in Miltenberg features picturesque half-timbered houses.
Saturday 5 May:
Miltenberg - Wertheim
The old town of Wertheim is positioned at the mouth of the River Tauber. The centrally located market place with the Engelsbrunnen (Angels' well) forms the central point of the town.
Sunday 6 May:
Wertheim - Lohr
We continue our journey this morning to the town of Lohr. This town has a modern shopping centre with numerous shops but has maintained its friendly character over the centuries. Be enchanted by the charm of the picturesque inner town.
Monday 7 May:
Lohr - Würzburg
We will arrive in Würzburg around midday. This picturesque town on the Main is well worth a visit. The Residentie and the university add character to the town. During a city walk(*) the local guide will introduce you to the loveliest parts of Würzburg.
Tuesday 8 May:
Würzburg - Schweinfurt
The Main is a narrow river so we sail close to small towns and villages. We will pass through several locks while sailing and we’ll arrive in Schweinfurt later in the afternoon.
Wednesday 9 May:
Schweinfurt - Bamberg
The town of Bamberg, more than 1000 years old, has a fairytale Altstadt (Old Town). The rulers of Babenberg built a splendid cathedral high above the town. You simply cannot get bored in Bamberg. The transfer bus that you are offered free of charge stops right in the old centre of Bamberg.
Thursday 10 May:
Bamberg - Nuremberg
Nuremberg is located mid-way along the Main-Danube Canal. To get a good impression of this city you can make use of the free bus transfer for the short ride to the centre.
Friday 11 May:
Nuremberg - Riedenburg
This is our second day on the Main-Danube Canal. This link between the River Main and the Danube was completed in 1992. Today we will pass the highest navigable point by ship in Europe. We are in fact sailing over a mountain, helped by some imposing locks. In the afternoon we will moor in the attractive town of Riedenburg where you can pay a visit to the Crystal Museum. You can also join an excursion(*) to the impressive Falconry Show in Rosenburg Castle
Saturday 12 May:
Riedenburg - Regensburg
Full of expectation, we look forward to arriving at the much sung about ‘ Blue Danube’. This takes place at the town of Kelheim. It’s just another three hours’ sailing to Regensburg. This ancient city is also known as the ‘Metropolis of the Middle Ages’. Nowhere else in Germany will you find so many well-preserved listed buildings.
Sunday 13 May:
Regensburg - Passau
We set course for Passau during the night. You can enjoy a wonderful panorama during breakfast. The Danube is flanked by steep hillsides and romance reigns supreme. After lunch we arrive at Passau, once a Celtic settlement. The beautiful Altstadt (Old Town) is bordered by three rivers and is a feast for the eyes.
Monday 14 May:
Passau - Arnhem (coach transfer)
The coaches back to the Netherlands depart after breakfast. We will serve coffee on the way and make a stop for lunch. We will arrive in Arnhem at the beginning of the evening. You will be talking for a long time about all the wonderful things you saw during this holiday.
Take note! The last day of this holiday is a full day of travel by coach
