Saturday 16 June:
Arnhem - Wirges - South Germany (coach transfer)
We depart Arnhem at 09:30. If desired we can arrange a hotel for you in Arnhem so you can be sure you will be on time. On the way to our hotel in South Germany we will stop in Wirges for lunch. We will also provide you with a cup of coffee at various times on the journey. You will have dinner in the hotel.
Sunday 17 June:
South Germany - coach transfer Lindau/Passau
After enjoying a delicious breakfast at your leisure, the coaches will be ready to take you to Passau. It’s a short drive to Passau-Lindau where you will be welcomed on board the Rembrandt van Rijn by the crew before lunch. After boarding we will sail to the quayside in Passau. You will have plenty of time for the rest of the day to see the Altstadt (Old Town) which is encircled by three rivers.
Monday 18 June:
Passau - Regensburg
We set sail from Passau during the night. When you get up for breakfast you will see that you are in the stunning Danube Valley. The wooded hillsides with the occasional castle provide a wonderful panorama. We will arrive in Regensburg early in the afternoon. This Celtic settlement features numerous authentic buildings. The Gothic St. Peter’s Cathedral has impressive stained glass windows.
Tuesday 19 June:
Regensburg - Riedenburg - Mühlhausen
In the afternoon we will moor up at the lovely village of Riedenburg. You can admire beautiful crystals and gems in the Kristallmuseum. At the end of the afternoon we set sail via the Main-Danube Canal for Mühlhausen where we will stay overnight.
Wednesday 20 June:
Mühlhausen - Nuremburg
During our second day on the imposing Main-Danube Canal we will sail over the highest navigable point in Europe. On arrival in Nuremburg you can make use of the free bus transfer to the centre. In Nuremburg’s Altstadt you will find numerous sights including the Kaiserburg castle and various Gothic churches such as the Lorenzkirche, Sebalduskirche and Frauenkirche.
Thursday 21 June:
Nuremburg - Bamberg
Bamberg is a town you will never forget. The old centre is, in a single word, unique. This means it is definitely worth using the free bus transfer which will take you to the centre of Bamberg. There is so much to see in this old town which is more than a thousand years old, that you will need to allow plenty of time for it. The former fishing settlement of Bamberg is also known as ‘Little Venice’ due to its position on the Main and Regnitz rivers.
Friday 22 June:
Bamberg - Schweinfurt
We are now on the River Main and we’ll arrive in Schweinfurt after lunch. You can take a look at the old centre or go for a walk along the promenade beside the Main. You will actually be walking along an old towpath where in olden times the boats were towed upstream by horses.
Saturday 23 June:
Schweinfurt - Würzburg
By the time you are awake we will already have passed through several locks. These locks are indispensable as the Main has a steep decline. We will moor in Würzburg during the afternoon, where you can take part in a city walking tour(*).
Sunday 24 June:
Würzburg - Marktheidenfeld
We continue upstream to our next destination: the small picturesque town of Marktheidenfeld. Beautiful half-timbered houses, romantic alleyways and the idyllic Main Promenade are the main features of this hospitable town.
Monday 25 June:
Marktheidenfeld - Wertheim
The former Wertheim residence at the mouth of the River Tauber is our goal for today.
Tuesday 26 June:
Wertheim - Aschaffenburg
Aschaffenburg lies at the foot of the Spessartgebergte hills. Views of the town are dominated by the imposing Schloss Johannisburg castle.
Wednesday 27 June:
Aschaffenburg - Rüdesheim
We take our leave of the River Main at Mainz and we are back on the Rhine. During the course of the afternoon we will moor in the lively town of Rüdesheim. You can take part in a tour of the vineyards(*), after which you will be dropped off in the centre to discover Rüdesheim at your own pace. A walk along the world-famous Drosselgasse is something not to be missed during your visit to Rüdesheim.
Thursday 28 June:
Rüdesheim - Cologne
The ‘Romantic Rhine’, the most beautiful section of the Rhine is on the programme for today. We’ll pass by the famous Lorelei, the subject of the famous legend: the singing legend of the Rhine. We’ll arrive in Cologne early in the afternoon. This cathedral city has a very lively Altstadt in addition to a long shopping promenade.
Friday 29 June:
Cologne - Arnhem
Without you even noticing it we will sail through the night past Düsseldorf and other places to arrive in Arnhem during breakfast. Disembarkation will take place at around 12:00. You will take with you wonderful memories of this lovely holiday. See you again!
