Wednesday 16 May:
Arnhem - Zaltbommel
We depart as usual from Arnhem at 09:30 and we quickly reach the River Waal. Then we set course for Zaltbommel. You can visit the town centre at your own pace in the afternoon.
Thursday 17 May:
Zaltbommel - Gorinchem - Willemstad
Gorinchem, once part of the Holland Waterline defences is one of the few remaining towns which still has the original defensive ramparts. The nearby Loevestein Castle once played an important historical part as a medieval toll and fortified castle. During lunch we continue our journey to Willemstad. During a city walk(*) you can visit the beautifully preserved city walls and see a number of other monuments that the town is rich in.
Friday 18 May:
Willemstad - Schoonhoven
We reach Schoonhoven by way of the Nord and Lek rivers. The skills of the silversmith are still a main feature of this small town on the Lek. Evidence of this are the many monumental silver forges and silversmith houses, in addition to the only training school for gold and silversmiths.
Saturday 19 May:
Schoonhoven - Zaandam
After lunch as we pass by our capital city, we’ll soon reach today’s destination, Zaandam. It’s located in the Zaan region, famous among other things for the Zaanse Schans. You can re-live Holland from centuries ago among the windmills, workplaces and Zaandam houses, and you’ll discover the rich history of the Zaan region.
Sunday 20 May:
Zaandam - Alkmaar
We weigh anchor very early. We’ll arrive in Alkmaar via the North Holland Canal during lunch. In the afternoon you can take part in a canal trip(*) through this cheese town.
Monday 21 May:
Alkmaar - Oudeschild (Texel)
We leave Alkmaar behind and cross over to the Wadden island of Texel. You can see the island during a coach tour(*) from Oudeschild harbour. A visit to Ecomare is also well worth the effort. You will learn all about the Wadden and the North Sea in the nature museum and the seal sanctuary.
Tuesday 22 May:
Oudeschild (Texel) - Harlingen
As we cross the Wadden Sea you can enjoy beautiful views of the Wadden Islands. And if we’re lucky we might see some seals on the way, resting on the sandbanks. Around midday we will arrive at the Friesian town of Harlingen. The town centre still contains many lovely buildings which reflect the historic character of the town. The many alleyways which previously contained warehouses connect the canals.
Wednesday 23 May:
Harlingen - Franeker - Leeuwarden
On our way to Leeuwarden we pass through beautiful nature reserves, villages and towns. After making a short stop in Franeker in the morning we will arrive in Leeuwarden in the course of the afternoon. The city is this year’s European Capital of Culture.
Thursday 24 May:
Leeuwarden - Sneek
The compact town centre with its ring of canals and the Waterpoort Gate add an intimate and friendly character to the town. Various waterways connect Sneek to the many lakes in the rest of Friesland. This also makes the town very popular for watersports.
Friday 25 May:
Sneek - Deventer
The Hanseatic town of Deventer, positioned on the River Ijssel was formerly one of Europe’s most important trading cities. You will still find many beautiful monuments in the town centre which remind us of those times. On this final evening the traditional Captains Dinner will be served, after which the musician will ensure an enjoyable evening.
Saturday 26 May:
