Saturday 4 August:
Arnhem - Zaandam
You are welcome on board the Rembrandt van Rijn from 16:00. During dinner, we'll cast off and set sail for Zaandam. During the evening, you can get to know your fellow passengers over a drink in the lounge.
Sunday 5 August:
Zaandam - Haarlem
After breakfast, you can visit Zaandam. The Zaanse Schans nearby is a unique part of the Netherlands, with wooden houses, windmills, barns and workshops. Here you will be able to see how life was in the 18th and 19th centuries. During lunch, we'll continue our trip towards Haarlem. There are many museums in the centre of Haarlem. Most of them are housed in one of the many listed buildings that Haarlem is rich in. The largest and most famous are the Frans Hals Museum and the Teylers Museum. A visit to the Cathedral of St Bavo or the Jopenkerk is worth the effort. The latter no longer serves as a church but as a lively brewery.
Monday 6 August:
Haarlem - Hoorn
Hoorn was one of the strongest cities during the Dutch East India Company period. In the old centre, you can still see buildings from this period, and that atmosphere is also present in the old harbour. Here there is a replica of the Dutch East India Company ship 'Halve Maen'. This ship played a leading role in the first Dutch exploration of Manhattan in 1609.
Tuesday 7 August:
Hoorn - Enkhuizen - Stavoren
We will follow the coast of the Ijsselmeer to the north. The first place where we'll dock is Enkhuizen. In the past, Enkhuizen was known for its herring fishing. You can learn more about this history and life on the Zuiderzee if you visit the Zuiderzee Museum. At the end of the afternoon we'll cross the Ijsselmeer to Stavoren. Its position on the Ijsselmeer and the connection to the lakes of Friesland make this place an ideal spot for water sports enthusiasts. That's why in the summer months it's always very lively here.
Wednesday 8 August:
Stavoren - Harlingen
We'll depart Stavoren and cross the Waddenzee to Harlingen in Friesland. In the centre, there are many beautiful buildings which reflect the historic character of the city. The many narrow streets, where warehouses once stood, connect the canals with each other.
Thursday 9 August:
Harlingen - Oudeschild (Texel)
Early in the morning we'll cross over to the Wadden Island of Texel. You can take a bus tour (*) of the island from the harbour at Oudeschild. A visit to the seal rescue centre Ecomare is also recommended.
Friday 10 August:
Oudeschild (Texel) - Den Helder - Urk
Den Helder lies at the northernmost point of the tip of the Province of North Holland. Thanks to its strategic location it is home to the Navy. In the city centre you can enjoy the shopping or just relax at one of the many outdoor cafes. During lunch, we'll continue our trip towards Urk. This old fishing village still has the largest fishing fleet of the Netherlands and has retained its historic character.
Saturday 11 August:
Urk - Hasselt - Deventer
Hasselt, Deventer and Zutphen are all Hanseatic cities. Historically, thanks to the Hanseatic League and their fortuitous location on the river, trade in goods was easier and there was a 'golden age' for these cities. This rich period is still visible in the beautiful buildings in the city centres. We'll arrive in Deventer in the course of the afternoon. This city is also known as the Koekstad, City of Cake, because the Deventer Koek, Deventer Cake, has been baked and traded here according to strict guidelines for centuries.
Sunday 12 August:
Deventer - Zutphen
In the afternoon, we will continue our trip towards the Torenstad, City of Towers. This is another name for Zutphen due to the many tall historical buildings that form the skyline of the city. In the evening, you will enjoy a delicious Farewell Dinner.
Monday 13 August:
Zutphen - Arnhem
As a conclusion to our trip you can enjoy a delicious Champagne Brunch in our restaurant. At the end of the morning we will leave the Ijssel and arrive in Arnhem via the Nether Rhine around 12:00, where we will bid you farewell. We are sure that you will have enjoyed all that the Netherlands has to offer.
